Nobu Hotel
NOBU HOSPITALITY LLC, CHICAGO
The main goal was to create a design that references the brands heritage without relying on cliches. The space uses Japanese design principles to inform design choices in order to create an authentic interior that feels appropriate for the gritty west loop neighborhood. The applied natural materials played with proportions to create a dramatic space that reflects a humble approach
to luxury.
Studio K conceived and handmade the leaf sculptures throughout the hotel. It took a year to produce over 20,000 leaves, each of them embedded with various colors of gold leaf and connected by steel wire. The sculpture was inspired by the changing of the leaves in the fall, a major event in Japan that inspires many culinary events and products.
